Sebastian Hofbauer, M.Sc., Dipl.-Ing.
Mr. Sebastian Hofbauer is Programme Manager at the Global Surgery Foundation. He is a former United Nations Fellow, the former Executive Director of the Global Challenges Forum Foundation, and Co-Founder of the global youth initiative 1M2030. He is a Mechanical Engineer by training (M.Sc., Dipl.-Ing.), specialized in business management.
Mr. Sebastian Hofbauer was appointed United Nations Fellow by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in April 2020. He worked as Division Coordinator & Project Leader at UNITAR, responsible for identifying new project opportunities, particularly with a view towards global health and leveraging emerging technologies.
In January 2018, at the age of 27, Mr. Sebastian Hofbauer was appointed Executive Director of a Swiss Foundation, the Global Challenges Forum (GCF). During his two-year tenure, he transformed the organization by introducing a new strategic framework in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and by establishing a new pillar on youth leadership.
Mr. Sebastian Hofbauer co-founded the 1M2030 Initiative (One Million Youth Leaders for Sustainable Development Beyond 2030). 1M2030 was a unique movement by youth for youth to drive awareness on young leaders as change-makers of the present. In 2019, the initiative was officially launched with remarks by United Nations Assistant Secretary-General, Mr. Nikhil Seth, at the European HQ of the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. Mr. Sebastian Hofbauer resigned from 1M2030 in 2021.
Mr. Sebastian Hofbauer holds a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Munich, Germany. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP)©.
