Bob Munro

Bob Munro is the Managing Director of XXCEL Africa Ltd. Since 1985 he has lived and worked in Africa as a senior adviser on environmental policy, water resources management and sustainable development for African governments, regional organizations and the United Nations. He has written over 150 articles and reports on strengthening environmental policy and law, water resources management, equity-led growth for sustainable development and sport for development and peace. He helped organize and/or represent different countries and international organizations at over 240 international conferences and carried out missions in over 50 countries.

He is the founder (1987) and Chairman of the Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA), a self-help youth sports and community service project in one of Africa’s largest and poorest slums. Today over 30,000 youth on 1,900 teams participate in the MYSA sports, environmental cleanups, AIDS prevention, leadership training, slum libraries, jailed kids, photography, music and other programmes. He is also the founder (1994) and Chairman of Mathare United FC, one of Kenya’s top and most popular football clubs, as well as a founding Director (2003) of the Kenyan Premier League Ltd.

He is a Senior Fellow in the Ashoka global network of social entrepreneurs (since 2008). Among other international awards, he received the global Help for Self-Help Prize (Oslo, 1999) and the global PlaytheGame Award for Strengthening the Ethical Values of Sport (Aarhus, 2015).
